Packing Party : Major Progress!
Last Saturday, a small but mighty group came to our rented warehouse, rolled up their sleeves, and helped The Spiel Foundation pack up board game bundles.
We are readying over 10,000 games to deliver to community centers, libraries, shelters, hospitals, and schools across the US and Canada.
Every bundle we deliver contains at least 5 games, so that means we are preparing over 2,000 packages to deliver.
Over the past two months, we have packed up 1,000 game bundles.
It is time intensive, exacting, tiring, and tedious work. And there are many steps to the process.
Most of the work has (out of necessity) been a solo endeavor with occasional heroic guest stars appearing for a shift.
…until Saturday.
On Saturday, a crew of 10 Spielers packed up 566 game bundles in 9 hours!
The assembly line was in full swing from morning to evening.
Assemble 5 games into a bundle (with a letter from the Foundation)
Assemble the box
Place a game bundle in the box
Roll up packing material and secure the game bundle in the box
Tape the box shut
Label and weigh the box
And finally store the box on a pallet so it can be shipped later

We cannot adequately thank the amazing folks who took time away from their lives to come help. But we do want to acknowledge each and every Spieler.

With their help, we can now see the finish line to this massive undertaking – a project that has been over 18 months in the making.
With some luck, we have all the bundles packed by the end of November.
Which means we will begin shipping bundles in December.
And with some luck, we may get them all delivered before the end of the year!
None of that would be possible without this giant leap forward.

The cost to ship 2,000 packages is staggering. We haven’t been able to raise funds through our normal methods for two full years, so the hit to our operating budget is going to be enormous. Any amount you contribute, large or small, is appreciated and needed.
The world needs more Champions of Fun. Now more than ever the world needs to be reminded that play can be a powerful and positive force in our lives.
