Spring Update - 18,000 Games!
Our Game Bundle Program is off to an incredible start in 2024.
We have received over 18,000 board and card games for our next round of deliveries.
To understand the scale of this undertaking, this number of games surpasses the total number of games we have donated in the 17 year history of the foundation!
We have been very very busy here at Spiel Central, unpacking over 32 pallets, many of them 7′ tall or higher, and then removing each game from its case pack. I had to keep most of the pallets outside under a tarp big enough for a tractor in my driveway as we made room for each one inside our mini-warehouse (aka my garage and basement).
It is a tight squeeze and has taken a tremendous amount of time and effort, but every last game is inside and ready to be prepped for bundles. The tarp outside now covers six pallets of flattened cardboard boxes we will shred and re-use as packing material when bundles are shipped.
For those who may not know, every game we deliver in a bundle has all its components assembled and pieces punched and bagged so the game is ready for play when it arrives. Prepping games insures that all pieces are stored properly in bags, so they are less likely to be lost or broken. It is an essential but astonishingly time consuming part of the process.
We’ll be planning multiple “punching parties” in the near future so we can get all 18,000 games ready to go.
We can’t wait to deliver this massive wave of games to organizations in need across the US and Canada and around the world! Our sights are set on some incredible goals, given the number of games we are working with.
These games were donated by three astonishingly generous publishers: Van Ryder Games, Calliope Games, and Portal Games. They also paid the freight/shipping costs to get them to us, which is a considerable expense!
